Improved and Effective Digital Services for OFWs

Following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call to digitize government services for better service delivery, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is actively collaborating with partner government agencies to provide improved and efficient comprehensive services for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Migrant Workers Undersecretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay mentioned in an interview on Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon that the DMW is consistently working with partner agencies to enhance services for OFWs through digital solutions and systems. This includes integrating the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) into the eGovApp and the DMW-OWWA Kumusta Kabayan app, which aims to improve welfare monitoring for OFWs.

“Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac and DICT Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda held a meeting regarding the integration of the OEC into the e-Travel system. This means that the process for our OFWs will be much quicker since the e-Travel system is now integrated with the Bureau of Immigration system,” Undersecretary Tutay explained.

The goal is to streamline DMW documentation through the e-Travel processing App, allowing OFWs to access various government services through a single portal. Both the DMW and DICT have agreed to work together on unifying processes, so that OFWs can take advantage of this efficient system by June.

In addition to providing a smooth travel experience for departing OFWs, the Undersecretary also revealed that the DMW, in partnership with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), is set to launch a Bagong Bayani Monitoring Hub for OFWs. This initiative aims to further enhance OFW protection and ensure government support during times of need.

“With the system, we can check on the status of our OFWs. Plus, if they need to be repatriated. As soon as any issues are reported by our OFWs, we can inform their next of kin or family here in the Philippines so they won’t worry. When they arrive in other countries, our Migrant Workers Offices quickly and efficiently provide assistance to the OFWs,” the Undersecretary mentioned.
