Job Description
A metal press job involves operating machinery to shape metal through processes like bending, cutting, and forming, requiring operators to set up, monitor, and maintain presses, inspect finished parts for quality, and follow safety protocols. Key duties include reading blueprints, loading and unloading materials, making adjustments, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring that manufactured components meet exact specifications and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation:
Set up and operate automatic or semi-automatic machines to bend, form, cut, stamp, or otherwise manipulate metal according to specifications and blueprints.
Material Handling:
Load raw materials or semi-finished parts into the machine press and unload finished products.
Quality Control:
Inspect completed parts to ensure they conform to quality standards, identify defects, and mark the job number on finished pieces.
Machine Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance, lubricate machines, and monitor operations to detect and troubleshoot potential mechanical issues.
Die Management:
Select, position, and align dies and other tooling using hand tools, cranes, or other hoisting devices.
Blueprint Interpretation:
Read and interpret blueprints, templates, and other technical documents to understand and set up the machine for specific operations.
Safety Compliance:
Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Process Adjustments:
Make necessary adjustments to machine settings, die positions, and workpiece positioning to ensure correct forming.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Technical Skill: Proficiency in operating and adjusting press machines.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to meticulously inspect products for defects and conform to specifications.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Understanding of machine mechanics to troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to lift and carry heavy materials or components as needed.
- Blueprint Reading: Skill in reading technical drawings and understanding engineering principles.
- Problem-Solving: Capacity to troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during the production process.
