What to include in your resume?

The main goal of a resume is to present your qualifications and skills to prospective employers, helping you land an interview for a job or other career opportunity. It serves as a marketing tool, emphasizing your relevant experience, education, and achievements in a clear and structured way. In essence, your resume is a summary meant to persuade the employer that you are a solid candidate deserving of further consideration.

What to include in your resume?
1. Personal Information
Let your employer know a glimpse about you. Some employers need to know your age, birthdate, marital status and physical attributes such as height and weight.

2. Education
The education section is an essential element of your resume. This part highlights your educational background along with any academic accomplishments. Be sure to mention the name of the college you attended, the degrees you earned, and any honors or achievements you obtained. Feel free to add details about your high school and elementary education as well.

3. Employent Experience
Your resume needs to have an experience section that clearly details the specific work and other relevant experiences you possess for the job you’re applying for. Make sure to list the companies you’ve worked at including inclusive dates, the job position you held at each company. and the specific responsibilities of your role.

4. Other Skills
In this part of your resume, feel free to highlight the skills that are directly (or indirectly) related to the job you’re applying for or has knowledge in doing it.
Typical skills to mention in this section are driving, carpentry, plumbing, computer skills, technical abilities, and soft skills that are particularly pertinent to the role. The job listing can serve as a helpful reference for identifying the most suitable skills to feature.

5. Photo
While other employers (specially in the US, UK or Canada) do not require a photo, it is still a good idea to add a headshot photo of you. Typically 2in x2in in size are placed at the top or beginning of the resume and one that is taken recently within the last 6 months.
